CBS News senior correspondent Ed O’Keefe will guest host Face The Nation this morning, filling in for Margaret Brennan who is on maternity leave after welcoming Baby Malek at Sibley Hospital on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C. FELICIDADES to Margaret, Yado, Eamon, and Malek!!! Que disfruten!!! Thank you for trusting Ed, a latino, with Margaret’s audience this morning. Predicition: He’s gonna effing crush it, per usual, because Ed is super clutch. For example —
Eduardo en Guatemala
CBS News sent O’Keefe to cover Vice President Kamala Harris’ trip to Guatemala and Mexico last month, an official state visit where Ed became Internet Famous in Spanish press when he repeated a colleague’s question in Spanish after Guatemalan president Alejandro Eduardo Giammattei Falla had ignored the reporter in English, blankly ignoring her before turning right to call on Ed who had her back, instead.
"Señor presidente,” Ed stood up and said to President Giammattei, “lo que mi compañera le preguntó es qué le dice usted a los críticos que piensan que usted es una parte del problema de la corrupción ¿Qué piensa usted?”
Translation: What my companion asked you is, What do you say to critics who think that you are a part of the problem of corruption? What do you think of that?
President Giammattei of Guatemala replied to Ed’s question in gringo Spanish. Point of the story is two:
Ed delivers for his colleagues.
Ed asks great questions, even in translation.
DON’T FORGET: Tune into CBS News in about 15 to 20 minutes to see Ed’s debut as guest host of Face The Nation. Break a leg, Eduardo! We’re proud of you!
