Five Latinx Rising In News
Fox News, NYT, WashPost, Reuters, and More ... an overdue update for our dear readers.
Hola Readers: A lot has happened since our last post … so let’s get right to it with some updates from the news industry —
Llenas Signs Multi-Year Deal With Fox News
National correspondent Bryan Llenas has signed a new multi-year deal with Fox News channel where he has become a mainstay on-air, reporting from the scene of natural disasters and courthouse tragedies. Congrats to Bryan Llenas on building a helluva career as a trusted American newsman.
Garcia Leaves The Hill For The Washington Post
The Hill editor Eric Garcia has joined The Washington Post to edit their essential PostEverything vertical. Excellent hire by the Post! Garcia is writing a book on autism. The Post platform could help elevate Eric’s career as an author to another level.
Ortiz joins Express Desk at New York Times
Aimee Ortiz has been hired to the New York Times Express desk, a wonderful first-job to learn the craft at the highest-level of American newsmaking. Great hire by NYT and a huge opportunity for Aimee.
Llamonca Debuts On New York Times Opinions
Our first thought is that it’s about damn time the print edition of the New York Times joined modernity for a day and published a Latina’s perspective on the Opinion Page. Props to to the Latino USA producer on a stellar debut. We would love to see more more of these from Janice Llamonca.
Our consejo to New York Times: Ask Janice what she wants to write about next. Work with her through three or four of these. Invest in Latina editorial talent.
Marte leaves Washington Post for Reuters
Jonnelle Marte is a brilliant hire for Reuters and a huge loss for the Post where she was a badass. Jonnelle is a badass at Reuters, too. Replacing Jonnelle on the personal finance at the Post will be difficult.
Our Consejo to Washington Post: Consider having Lyanne Alfaro down from the stock exchange for coffee on K Street. We’re big fans of Alfaro, NASDAQ producer (former CNBC and Business Insider) and creator of the Moneda Moves newsletter. Alfaro could not replace Marte, but her perspective on wealth as a Latina in Manhattan has big potential for an outlet like The Post.
Jobs Jobs Jobs…
Til Next Time…
This is the 13th edition of The Latinx. We hope you enjoyed it. If not, sign up for Moneda Moves. It’s way better. Tips to latinx.army@gmail.com.
