NPR legend Maria Hinojosa is finally starting to get the call backs she deserves from 30 Rock. We’ve never seen Hinojosa on MSNBC so much and we love it. Indeed, we hope Hinojosa is being auditioned by 30 Rock for a contributorship on the MSNBC network where, until very recently, Latinas guests were shamefully scarce.
Why Hinojosa?
Latinx audiences of all ages trust Hinojosa. While Hinojosa has spent her career as a radio broadcaster, she is a recognizable, authentic voice and perspective from the Latinx community that major TV news networks are finally starting to invite on to mainstream airwaves.
No one has covered the Latinx experience longer at the national-level in the United States than Hinojosa, who we think would be the first Latina contributor signed by the MSNBC in recent memory … since Maria Teresa Kumar became a political commentator on the network over a decade ago … but have not confirmed. We’d also rather not start a petition for MSNBC to offer Hinojosa a contributorship.
Consider…
How many dozens of contributors were signed by CNN and MSNBC as experts on the Mueller Investigation? Dozens. How many contributors has either network signed as experts on immigration? None, we think … but that’s another number we haven’t confirmed. It’s time for MSNBC to reverse course and offer Maria Hinojosa a political analyst contract like the one CNN just signed with Laura Barron-Lopez.
